WHAT: A ceremony and ribbon-cutting to celebrate the grand opening of Washburn Tech East; tours of the new facility to follow

WHERE: Washburn Tech East, 2014 SE Washington St., Topeka, Kan.
WHO: This event, hosted by Washburn Tech, Washburn University, GO Topeka and Joint Economic Development Organization (JEDO), is an invitation to the community to tour this state-of-the-art facility while celebrating new educational opportunities for the East Topeka community.
WHY: This collaborative effort is designed to better meet the needs of the underrepresented and under-resourced adult students in the community where they live, in an effort to reduce the barriers to post-secondary education.
Programs at Washburn Tech East include health aide, commercial truck driving, building technology/carpentry and General Education Diploma (GED) as well as ESL courses.
Funding for the facility, totaling $5.5 million, has been provided by JEDO and GO Topeka. Operational costs and staffing for this workforce training center are being provided by Washburn University and Washburn Tech.
