Topeka, Kan. - Education technology company EAB has recognized Washburn University’s work on behalf of student achievement with its Student Success Collaborative - Technology Pioneer Award. This award recognizes an institution that is consistently on the leading edge when it comes to technology and testing new solutions to advance student success.

“The COVID-19 pandemic forced institutions to rely on technology like never before to support students on their educational journey,” said Scott Schirmeier, president of EAB Technology. “This year’s awardees, like their predecessors, are true leaders in using technology to help advisors, faculty, administrators, and students work collaboratively to keep more students on track to graduate. The winners exemplify what schools can achieve with a campus-wide approach to student success, strong leadership, and an unrelenting commitment to helping more students reach their potential.”

“Washburn joined the EAB Student Success Collaborative and implemented Navigate in September 2017 as part of our continual, strategic efforts to enhance student success and to help students persist to graduation,” said Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek, vice president of academic affairs for Washburn University. “This award recognizes not only the spirit across campus to pursue the right solutions, but also the enthusiasm Washburn faculty and staff have in helping each of our students realize their goals.”

Navigate (an EAB product) is a comprehensive student success management system that links advisors, faculty, staff and administrators together in an approach called the Washburn University Coordinated Care Network.

“The goal is to support a student from enrollment to graduation, and possibly beyond into their career,” said Dr. Alan Bearman, Washburn University dean of university libraries and the Center for Student Success and Retention and professor of history. “Using Navigate across our Care Network allows Washburn holistically to help students succeed, and it is working as demonstrated through higher retention and graduation rates.”

This is the seventh year that EAB has recognized outstanding achievements in student success. Awardees are chosen from among the colleges, universities and individuals that use Navigate, EAB’s student success management system. The awards were presented at CONNECTED20, a three-day virtual gathering, of leaders from the country’s most progressive colleges and universities.

EAB’s mission is to make education smarter and communities stronger. They harness the collective power of more than 1,900 schools, colleges and universities to uncover and apply proven practices and transformative insights. And since complex problems require multifaceted solutions, they work with each school differently to apply these insights through a customized blend of research, technology and services. From kindergarten to college and beyond, EAB partners with education leaders, practitioners, and staffs to accelerate progress and drive results across three key areas: enrollment management, student success and institutional operations and strategy.
