WHAT:  Academy Award winner Rick Carter will be speaking to students in the Washburn University mass media film 2 class. Carter is the production designer and visionary behind many top Hollywood films. Production Designers basically design everything you see on screen in collaboration with the Director and their vision and are instrumental to the production.

Carter won Academy Awards for Lincoln (2012) and Avatar (2019), and has 42 other award nominations with 11 wins. Carter partners frequently with Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis and J.J. Abrams, while also working with James Cameron and many other top directors and his credits include a lengthy list of blockbuster movies.

His presentation at Washburn follows similar talks at the University of Southern California, New York University and the American Film Institute.  Carter was introduced to Washburn by Allan Holzman, the Emmy and Peabody-award winning filmaker who came to Washburn in 2019 as part of the first Washburn University WIFI Film Festival.
