Topeka, Kan. – The Washburn University Psychological Services Clinic is holding a free child assessment day for children who may be experiencing difficulties learning or being in school. The child assessment day is Friday, Sept. 24, 4 – 7 p.m. in the clinic in Henderson Learning Center, Room 111. Included assessments are related to ADHD, learning disabilities, giftedness and behavioral disorders. The screening is available in person and online; children are welcome but do not need to be present.
Parents and guardians will complete a questionnaire related to struggles and capabilities their child has in school. Those who prefer to fill out the questionnaire online can do so at this link: https://forms.gle/FEiDRwd4JrnJAkj88. A clinic staff member will contact them by phone after receiving the questionnaire. If a child needs further assessment or is diagnosed with a learning disability or ADHD, the clinic will provide recommendations to parents and guardians.
“It can be very important to screen children for things such as learning disabilities or ADHD to ensure that they get early access to help in the school setting, which is an integral part of ensuring children are successful learners in the school environment,” said Kimberly Day, clinical director.
“The earlier they are able to find the best way for them to learn, the more successful they will be long term.”
