Topeka, Kan. – The Washburn University Department of Music has several concerts planned for April. Music will be from bands, to percussion, to opera and will feature Washburn University students, faculty and guests. The concerts are free and the public is welcome. Washburn University Band Concert

WHEN: Monday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus

DETAILS: The Washburn University band has been hard at work preparing for this one-of-a-kind concert that will have audience members in awe. Don’t miss out on a night filled with music and inspiration.

 

Percussion Ensemble Festival

WHEN: Tuesday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus

DETAILS: The Washburn University Percussion Festival will kick off with a concert featuring percussionists such as Ivan Trevino, Tommy Dobbs, Von Hansen, Jason Degenardt and the WU Percussion Group. This concert is a great mix of pop/rock with contemporary percussion.

 

Dr. Von Hansen Faculty Percussion Recital

WHEN: Sunday, April 10 at 3 p.m.

WHERE: White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus

DETAILS: The faculty recital will have a variety of instruments and sounds that can be enjoyed by everyone. Hansen will open with a piece for marimba and recorded choir, and there will be two solo steel drum pieces. Hansen will also join Washburn alumni Degenhardt, for a piece involving a guitar with chopsticks. The audience will also be treated to the sound of snare drums that are turned into speakers.

 

Second Annual Percussion Picnic

WHEN: Thursday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: The Union Lawn on the Washburn University campus

DETAILS: Come enjoy the yearly outdoor percussion concert on the Washburn lawn. This is a fun community event. Bring a lawn chair and a cooler for the festivities, and have some fun. There will be great music for all to enjoy. 

 

Washburn University Saxophone Ensemble Concert

WHEN: Tuesday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus

DETAILS: Washburn University’s talented Saxophone Ensemble will showcase their skills.

 

Washburn University Low Brass Ensemble Concert

WHEN: Thursday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus

DETAILS: Washburn University’s Low Brass Ensemble will be performing a fantastic line-up.

 

Washburn University Opera Performance

WHEN: April 22, 23 at 7:30 p.m. and 24 at 2 p.m.

WHERE: Neese Gray Theater on the Washburn University campus

DETAILS: Washburn University will host an Opera performance at the Neese Gray Theater April 22 through April 24. There is a cost of admission for the Washburn Opera performance for non-Washburn students and faculty.

 

Dr. Zsolt Eder and Dr. Lucy Tan Duo Faculty Recital 

WHEN: Tuesday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus

DETAILS: Dr. Zsolt Eder and Dr. Lucy Tan will perform a Duo Faculty Recital April 26 at White Concert Hall featuring classics from Beethoven. This pair is sure to recreate the famous composer’s music with perfection. 

 

Washburn University Jazz Ensemble Concert

WHEN: Thursday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus

DETAILS: Washburn University’s Jazz Ensemble Concert will be the perfect end to your Thursday evening. The brass and rhythm section will come together to give audience members an exciting line-up of popular jazz music. Don’t miss out!
