Topeka, Kan. – Washburn University has named Lori Hutchinson interim director of Public Relations. She currently serves as director of marketing and community relations at Washburn University Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech). Her new role begins immediately while she continues to support the mission of Washburn Tech.

     Hutchinson joined Washburn Tech in 2013. She has been responsible for media relations, marketing campaigns, campus promotion, website content, advertising and special events. Hutchinson also has worked on several initiatives on the Washburn University campus including a redesign of academic program pages on the website and communications efforts for reaccreditation. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Kansas State University.

     Prior to joining the Washburn family, Hutchinson worked for WIBW-TV in Topeka, Kan. as co-anchor of 13 News at 10. She continues to air a weekly segment, Wednesday’s Child, which features children in state care who need to be adopted. Hutchinson also was a news anchor at KTKA-TV in Topeka, Kan., and KVII-TV in Amarillo, Texas. She has been an active community volunteer and served on several boards of directors.

     Hutchinson replaces Patrick Early who retired from his post in September.
