Topeka, Kan. -Washburn University’s Homecoming, Oct. 19-22, is a four-day celebration of Washburn traditions for students, alumni, faculty, staff and the community. The Washburn Homecoming events showcase the Ichabod spirit; this year’s theme is “Out of this World.” A Homecoming highlight is the Homecoming football game Saturday, Oct. 22 against the University of Central Oklahoma.

SCHEDULE FOR HOMECOMING EVENTS 

Wednesday, Oct. 19

Scorch on the Porch

11 a.m. – 1 p.m., the Memorial Union

The Memorial Union will transform into the Homecoming theme, Out of This World. Students, faculty and staff can enjoy Homecoming-themed décor, meals, Ichabod Shop (bookstore) deals and other activities, such as live music.

Rising Stars Variety Show

6 - 8 p.m., Washburn A and B, in the Memorial Union

Formerly known as Open Mic Night, Washburn students will show off their talent at the Rising Stars Variety Show. Top Bod nominees will be announced during the variety show.

Thursday, Oct. 20

Yell Like Hell

7 p.m., Lee Arena, in the Petro Allied Health Building

Student teams perform dances, skits and more to showcase their Homecoming spirit in this annual tradition.

Friday, Oct. 21

After Hours

5 - 8 p.m., Washburn Room A and B, in the Memorial Union

Gather with alumni and friends at After Hours. Enjoy drinks, food and musical entertainment from The Brothers Blue. Also, check out the Top Hats display and banners. After Hours is free for alumni dues-paid members and $5 for non-members. Learn more at https://wualumni.org/homecoming

Washburn Theatre presents the new musical “Andersen: A Fairy Tale Life”

7:30 p.m., the Neese-Gray Theatre

“Andersen: A Fairy Tale Life” a new musical by June McCarty Clair, John Clair and Derek Hakes will be presented by Washburn University Theatre at 7:30 p.m. October 21, 22, 28 and 29 and 2 p.m. October 30 in the Neese-Gray Theatre on the Washburn University campus.

As part of Washburn Homecoming festivities, the playwrights will be on campus for opening weekend.

Tickets are a suggested $10 donation for general seating, and Washburn students, faculty and staff can attend for free with a Washburn I.D. Saturday, Oct. 22 – Homecoming Day

Washburn University Alumni Association and Foundation Pancake Feed

8 – 10 a.m., Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center

Enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice free for Washburn University Alumni Association dues-paid members and children under the age of five years old. Tickets are $5 per person for non-members. Pre-registration for the pancake feed is preferred, but not required. Visit https://wualumni.org/homecoming to register.

Homecoming Parade

10 a.m., parade route winds around campus

The parade route circles Washburn University campus, on 17th Street, Washburn Avenue, 21st Street and MacVicar Avenue. The Topeka community is invited to watch the parade.

Football Game

1 p.m., Yager Stadium

The ‘Bods will take on the University of Central Oklahoma. Top Bods and the Ichabods of Honor will be announced at halftime. Visit https://wutickets.universitytickets.com/ for tickets.
