Topeka, Kan. – The Washburn University department of music will host two performances, one Jan. 27 and the other Jan. 28, in White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus. Each features faculty from the department. The concerts are free and open to the public.

Lucy Tan Faculty Piano Recital

- 7:30 – 8:45 p.m. Jan. 27

      Dr. Lucy Tan, Washburn University department of music lecturer and director of keyboard studies, will present a faculty recital. Tan will perform works by Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy and Granados. Those interested in learning more about Tan may visit her faculty profile page at https://www.washburn.edu/our-faculty/lucy-tan.

      For students wishing to gain hands-on experience, the Washburn University department of music will host Washburn Piano Day 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Feb. 11 for piano students in grades K – 12. This event is $10 per piano student and students may learn more and register to attend now at https://tinyurl.com/wucamps. Registration is open thru Feb. 7.

“Jopara Ensemble,” An Evening of Paraguayan Music

- Jan. 28
- Masterclass: 1 – 2 p.m.
- Performance: 3 – 4 p.m.

      Aleia Gonzalez Allen, Washburn University department of music adjunct professor specializing in guitar, with guest artists Dr. Alejandro Avila, piano faculty from Barton Community College, Dr. Ramiro Miranda and Irene Diaz Gill, string area faculty from Emporia State University, will perform “Jopara Ensemble.” This is an opportunity to enjoy original arrangements of Paraguayan music. Before the performance, there will be a masterclass at 1 p.m. for violin, viola and piano students.
