Topeka, Kan. - Washburn University continues to invest in students by offering more scholarship dollars to transfer students. Starting in fall 2023, the university is more than tripling the awards on its transfer scholarship grid. Students transferring from community colleges and four-year institutions are eligible.

“Once again Washburn University is demonstrating its commitment to ensuring students receive the opportunity for an affordable, high-quality education by increasing scholarships for transfer students,” said Dr. Alan Bearman, interim executive director of enrollment management, Washburn University.

Students transferring to Washburn with at least 12 credit hours and a GPA of 3.0 and higher are eligible for awards that range from $1,000 to $4,000 per academic year based on GPA. These scholarships are renewable for up to six consecutive semesters or upon receipt of a student’s first bachelor’s degree.

The new grid affords transfer students whose GPA ranges from 3.76 to 4.0 up to $12,000 in total award dollars. Until now, the most a transfer student could receive from Washburn’s transfer scholarship grid was a total of $3,000.

The initiative aligns with Washburn’s commitment to providing an affordable, high-quality education as recognized by U.S. News and World Report (2022-2023) which listed Washburn University with the lowest student debt among the public regional universities in the state. Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek, president of Washburn University, indicates Washburn will continue to explore new ideas to best meet the needs of students and communities.

“Meeting the future workforce and leadership needs of the region requires Washburn University to recruit both direct from high school and transfer students to campus,” Mazachek said. “The new transfer scholarship grid is another example of seeking to increase affordability for students in an attempt to help students experience the outstanding educational opportunities available to them at Washburn.”
