“We want to continue to build the relationship between the university and the surrounding community,” said Isaiah Collier, director of student involvement and development at Washburn University. “We have the platform to showcase the talent that Topeka fosters, and by providing a space where the Washburn and Topeka communities can come together and show their strengths, we can better solidify the connection between the two.”
Acts of all kinds are encouraged to apply, from individuals to groups. If performers can safely perform inside, on a stage, Washburn wants to see what they can do! Contestants aged 16 and 17 will need a parent or guardian’s permission to perform.
Washburn also welcomes local businesses that foster talent, like dance studios or music stores, to submit their students as contestants or advertise as a vendor. Businesses can also reserve ad space in the Topeka’s Got Talent program.
Contestants chosen for the live auditions will perform for a panel of judges consisting of Washburn and Topeka community members. The judges will offer different perspectives based on their area of expertise and narrow down the 10 contestants to five. The public can reserve a ticket before the show for $5, or pay $7 at the door.
The remaining contestants will have two weeks to prepare for their final performances before the Topeka’s Got Talent Live Show where a winner will be chosen to take home the $5,000 cash prize. Those interested in attending can purchase a ticket before the show for $7 or at the door for $10. Attendees who would like seats close to the action can purchase VIP tickets (first three rows) for $20. To order tickets in advance visit washburn.edu/tgt.
