Topeka, Kan. – There will be two events happening on Washburn University’s campus Saturday, April 22: Mulvane Art Museum Earth Day and the Ad Astra Kansas Space Celebration. Both events are free and open to the public.
Mulvane Art Museum Earth Day
When: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22
Where: Room 16 in the Garvey Fine Arts Center on the Washburn University campus
This Earth Day, join artist and former physician Nancy Tilson-Mallett, M.D., for a healing art workshop. Attendees will learn how visualization and creativity can support their health. Tilson-Mallett will guide the class through a relaxation meditation centered on landscape imagery. Attendees will also create a silk painting inspired by their peaceful place. This is a Washburn WUmester event.
Walk-ins are welcome but space is limited, so make sure to reserve a spot by emailing Sara Stepp, academic curator, Mulvane Art Museum, at sara.stepp@washburn.edu.
Ad Astra Kansas Space Celebration
When: 1 – 4 p.m. Saturday, April 22
Where: Stoffer Science Hall on the Washburn University campus
The Washburn University physics and astronomy department and the Ad Astra Kansas Foundation are collaborating for the 2023 Ad Astra Kansas Space Celebration! This event was created in 2010 as a way to get community members of all ages more involved and excited about science.
Ad Astra Kansas Space Celebration features activities and educational presentations on topics in astronomy, space science, aviation, space exploration, geology, chemistry, physics and more. There will be activities for children and families are especially invited to attend.
