Topeka, Kan. – A new gift from the Finnup Foundation is opening more educational doors at Washburn University specifically for students in southwest Kansas. Potential students and their families are invited to explore the unique possibilities at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 13, at Southwind Golf and Dining, 77 Grandview Dr., Garden City, Kan.
Finnup Scholarship recipients may receive up to $45,000 while attending Washburn University. The funding comes from the Finnup Foundation as well as Washburn’s new merit scholarship plan and supports the paying of tuition, belonging to the Finnup Scholars Academy and an opportunity to study abroad.
“We are proud of our long and valued partnership with the Finnup Foundation which has assisted Washburn students from Finney County and southwest Kansas for decades,” said Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek, president, Washburn University. “These new opportunities are designed to benefit students holistically and offer financial support, a connected campus life as well as the chance to study abroad. This transformative experience is second to none.”
In addition to potential students and their families, area high school administrators and counselors are invited to the event as well as Washburn alumni and friends. They will learn more about Washburn and take a virtual tour of campus thanks to virtual reality technology. Giveaways and refreshments will be offered and students can even enroll for the fall semester.
“Dr. Mazachek in addition to our leadership and admissions teams are making a road trip to Garden City, actively recruiting high school students in Finney County and the surrounding area,” said Dr. Alan Bearman, vice president for strategic enrollment management and dean of student success and libraries, Washburn University. “This opportunity for students in southwest Kansas is unique and we want to make sure it impacts the lives of as many students as possible. We want these students on our campus next fall and walking across our commencement stage in the years to come.”
