Topeka, Kan. – The Washburn University History honorary society Phi Alpha Theta is sponsoring “Freedom of the Press: A Forum” 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 12 in Henderson Learning Resources Center, Room 112. The forum features Emily Bradbury, executive director of the Kansas Press Association, Jeffrey Jackson, interim dean of the Washburn University School of Law, Sean Bird, senior associate dean of the Washburn University libraries, Dr. Bruce Mactavish, assistant professor of history for Washburn University, and Dr. Tom Prasch, professor and chair of the Washburn University history department. This event is free, and the public is invited.

Where: Henderson Learning Resources Center, Room 112, on the Washburn University campus
Details: The panel will discuss the core issue of free press in American society, the fragility of press freedom in contemporary America and the challenges a free press faces today as highlighted by the alleged illegal police seizure of computers and other equipment from the offices of the Marion Daily Record and the offices of its editor in August 2023.
