“Brothers of the Dust” is directed by Washburn professor emeritus, Sharon Sullivan.
“While set in 1958, this play explores themes that torment us today. How do we define home? What do we owe family and what are we owed? How do different generations define success? What is our connection to our past, to the land our families worked for generations?” said Sullivan. “The Colton’s story reflects the best and worst of ourselves as we address these ongoing conflicts in our families. Ultimately, it is a love story.”
The cast features well known Topeka actors Jason Jones and Dané Shobe, newcomer Nyalia Lui and Washburn students Khalani Britt, Elijah Reed, Lareesa Kelpin and Joanna Marks. Carmelle Garcia is an understudy.
The Feb. 23 production will feature a red-carpet opening night premiere event sponsored by the Topeka (Kansas) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. The March 2 production date also has a youth night experience open to students in grades 8-12, along with a talkback with the playwright following the performance.
