Topeka, Kan. – The Washburn University Department of Music and Theatre will host Washburn Piano Day Feb. 25 for piano students in grades K – 12. “As students are preparing for spring piano recitals and competitions, Washburn Piano Day provides piano students grades K-12 an opportunity to try out repertoire in a semi-public performance setting and receive valuable feedback from Washburn University piano faculty and music major judges,” said Dr. Lucy Tan, Washburn University Department of Music and Theatre director of keyboard studies/applied piano and faculty advisor for the Washburn Piano and Organ Society.

A performance schedule will be emailed to participants a few days before the festival. Each performance will be in the Choral Room in the Garvey Fine Arts Center on the Washburn University campus. The registration deadline is Feb. 18.

Free, adult-sized piano t-shirts will be handed out at check-in while supplies last. Each participant will be awarded a certificate of excellence, and students who score exceptional honors will receive ribbons of special recognition. Additionally, the highest scoring piano performances from Washburn Piano Day will be showcased in a gala concert sponsored by Washburn Piano and Organ Society April 12, 2024, in White Concert Hall.

In special cases of financial concerns, the $10 registration fee may be waived. Please email lucy.tan@washburn.edu.

The Washburn Piano and Organ Society created this event to benefit and serve the greater Northeast Kansas community. All registration fees support the college students of the Washburn Piano and Organ Society who helped organize this event. The fees will allow the society to continue to provide high-quality keyboard events for the community and will further enable Washburn music majors to be involved in the community as leading musical professionals.
