Topeka, Kan. – Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Clifford the Big Red Dog and KTWU Channel 11! Meet Clifford at the Toy Store from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. This character event is free to the public, with advance registration requested.
Designed for children ages three to seven, the animated “Clifford the Big Red Dog” series is based on the books of the same name. “Clifford the Big Red Dog” uses storytelling to present universal social and emotional messages to young children. The stories are fun and kid-relatable, featuring experiences that all kids encounter: being a good friend, helping others and going on adventures! More importantly, though, they learn that the world is out there to be discovered with gusto. Find out more about Clifford on the PBS KIDS website.
Each episode features two 11-minute stories with a curriculum centered on two main concepts that go hand-in-hand (or hand-in-paw):
- Imaginative Play: illustrating how imagination and pretend play can lead to discovery, understanding and innovation
- Literacy: Emphasizing how reading and storytelling are valuable tools to spark imagination and open doors to new ideas, solutions and adventures
The event, which is open to the public, will feature several activities for children roughly age three to seven:
- Take-your-own photos with Clifford (individuals or small groups)
- Story time with “Clifford the Big Red Dog” books at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
- Craft and coloring activities
- Drawing for gift basket
Children from families who are members of the KTWU Kids’ Club will also receive a free “Clifford the Big Red Dog” book.
The Toy Store is located at 5300 SW 21st St., Topeka, Kan.
