Topeka, Kan. – The Washburn University Biology Department is hosting Biology Night 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. March 6 in the north lobby of Stoffer Science Hall for high school students and their parents/guardians to learn more about the department, degree programs and possible biology-related careers. Faculty, staff and students will be there to answer questions about programs, give tours of Stoffer and help incoming students fill out department scholarship applications. This event is free.
Any students who pre-register by emailing biology@washburn.edu will receive a gift. The department welcomes students who have already committed to Washburn, or those who are still deciding on where to attend college.
“The biology generalist degree at Washburn gives students a strong foundation as a scientist, no matter their career of interest,” said Dr. Susan Bjerke, associate professor of biology, Washburn. “Because all Washburn biology students graduate with research experience, they can be confident that their skill, knowledge and ability as a scientist, critical thinker and communicator of complex information will grow in this program.
“Graduates have gone on to further their education in graduate school, combined their interest in science with another degree for a specialized field (law school, for example), and gone on to work as field biologists or in laboratories.”
Representatives from the Washburn University Admissions Office will be there as well with additional information and students can sign up for a New Student Orientation session. There will be prize drawings - including one for a Biology Department scholarship.
