Topeka, Kan. – Career and technical education students from across Kansas brought home medals from the 2024 SkillsUSA Kansas State Championships Conference. Students from Washburn Tech won a total of 48 medals at the competition, including 26 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 12 bronze medals.
The 2024 state championships were held in Hutchinson, Kan., in late April. During the SkillsUSA competition, students worked against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations such as automotive refinishing, cabinetmaking, culinary arts and welding fabrication.
Top student winners received gold, silver and bronze medallions. Many also received prizes such as tools of their trade and scholarships to further their careers and education. The annual championships event is for middle school, high school and college-level students who are members of SkillsUSA.
Gold medal winners from each state will compete in the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, Ga., June 24-28. Washburn Tech will have 29 students participating in the event, which attracts more than 16,000 students, teachers and business partners, and showcases career and technical education students from around the country. It is the largest gathering of America’s future skilled workforce and the ultimate recognition of excellence in career and technical education.
