Topeka, Kan. – Washburn University will host the second annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Banquet Sept. 12. Enjoy the richness of Hispanic culture with an authentic meal, entertainment from the Kansas City Latin Jazz Orchestra and a keynote address from Marisol Marcelo, director of marketing and public relations, Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. This event is sponsored by Washburn's Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO). The public is invited to attend for a $10 fee for the meal.

“This banquet is about taking time to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic Americans,” said Dr. Eric Grospitch, vice president for student life, Washburn University. “And, recognizing that Washburn has a great population of Hispanic students, faculty and staff who contribute so much to our university every day.

“We know this extends to our Topeka community and we would love to have community partners join us Sept. 12 to help kick off Hispanic Heritage Month.”
