Topeka, Kan. – About 100 students from 12 area high schools will visit Washburn University 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Oct. 17 to explore healthcare careers and educational pathways. Participants will tour seven different healthcare program labs/classrooms on the Washburn campus. While touring the labs, they will meet faculty from 10 different healthcare programs learning about the programs and professions. They will also be given information from the Washburn University admissions staff. This visit day is free; only previously registered students can attend the Oct. 17 exploration day.

     “The demand for healthcare workers remains high. From hospitals to residential care facilities, employers across Kansas are seeking qualified individuals to ensure the well-being of our community,” said Mark Kohls, chair of the allied health department and physical therapist assistant program director, Washburn. “This event offers students an excellent chance to explore various career paths as they plan their future educational journey.”

     Washburn University faculty and staff from occupational therapy assistant, physical therapist assistant, diagnostic medical sonography, radiologic technology, radiation therapy, respiratory therapy, health information technology, bachelor of health science administration, medical laboratory sciences, public health, medical imaging from the Allied Health Department, as well as the Washburn University School of Nursing will guide students through the day and answer questions.

     Students from Tonganoxie High School, Topeka Center for Advanced Learning & Careers, Perry-Lecompton High School, Topeka High School, Topeka West High School, Shawnee Heights High School, Highland Park High School and area homeschool students have registered to attend.
