Topeka, Kan.Washburn Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech) is proud to announce a donation of more than $10,000 worth of tools for its electrical program from VDC Specialists and Milwaukee Tools.

VDC Specialists began orchestrating its plan for donations earlier in the year.  “At VDC Specialists, our goal with everything we do — whether it's a donation or our projects — is to make the biggest impact possible,” says Heath Robertson, President/Owner of the company. VDC provides virtual 3D construction models for multimillion-square-foot projects like stadiums, hospitals and international airports.

“This year, we immediately thought of Washburn Tech and the students in the electrical program when laying out our planned donations,” Robertson said. “When we reached out to Chris Mullins, the program’s instructor, we asked a simple question: What do you need?”

The answer, it turns out, was simple: more tools. It quickly became clear that sharing power tools was slowing down class progress. Robertson leveraged a connection made just weeks before, and a quick phone call got him in touch with the right people at Milwaukee Tools. As a result, VDC Specialists has donated more than 30 power tools, including bandsaws and impact drills. Milwaukee Tools also generously providied electrician’s tool bags for all 60 students currently enrolled in the program.

“We’re so thankful for people like Heath, who go out of their way to help us ensure that our students have the tools they need. It really empowers the next generation of electricians to focus fully on learning their trade. Soon they will be contributors on job sites around the country,” said Mullins.
