Topeka, Kan. – The Washburn University Dancing Blues are the Innovative Choreography Open Championship winners. After competition March 2 in Olathe, Kan., the team earned first in the pom category and the title of overall grand champion, scoring the highest for their routine. The Dancing Blues competed against Emporia State University, Baker University, Johnson County Community College, Missouri State University Movement, Ottawa University, Rockhurst University, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Southwestern College University of Kansas Dance Alliance and the University of Missouri Club Team.

The Dancing Blues are training to compete at the DTU National Competition in Orlando, Fla. in April.

The Dancing Blues are an integral part of Washburn spirit. Serving as the university dance team, the Dancing Blues perform at all home football games, women’s and men’s basketball games, NCAA tournament games and appear at university and alumni events.
