Topeka, Kan. – Washburn University is kicking off a new era of Ichabod Football with the 2025 Spring Game on Friday, April 11. New Washburn Head Football Coach Zach Watkins and his staff are sharing a special preview of their squad through a free, community-wide event.

The game begins at 6 p.m. in Yager Stadium featuring the Blue Team vs. the White Team. MIAA officials will referee the four-quarter contest. All aspects will mimic a real game including fun activities before and during the match-up.

“We are ramping up excitement for our football program by reimagining the Spring Game. In addition to football on the field, Washburn is planning activities off the field such as tailgating, games and music to create a new tradition for our entire community,” said Watkins. “I hope students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters will join us for this free, family-friendly event and jump on the Ichabod bandwagon.”

Prior to the game, folks are encouraged to tailgate in the areas north and east of the stadium. Yard games and inflatables will be set up on the Great Lawn while the Marching Ichabods, Washburn Cheer and Mr. Ichabod provide a traditional game day atmosphere. In addition, the new Pepsi Fan Zone just east of the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility will host activities. Organizers hope a Friday in the spring will feel like a Saturday in the fall.

“Our players and coaching staff are already working hard and striving to live up to our team’s mantra, Be the Standard. We hope to build excitement and support through the Spring Game while offering a fun, fan experience,” said Watkins.
