Topeka, Kan. — Washburn University School of Law is honored to host the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit for a special session on Thursday, April 10. The proceedings will take place in the Heath Family Appellate Courtroom within Robert J. Dole Hall, providing students and members of the public a rare opportunity to observe federal appellate arguments in person.
The three-judge panel includes Chief Judge Jerome Holmes, Judge Veronica Rossman and Judge Nancy Moritz, a 1985 graduate of Washburn Law. This panel will hear oral arguments in multiple cases spanning a range of legal issues, including immigration law, education law and criminal defense.
“The opportunity to host the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals underscores Washburn Law’s dedication to providing an exceptional legal education that integrates real-world experiences,” said Jeffrey Jackson, dean of Washburn University School of Law. “Observing appellate advocacy at this level is invaluable for our students, offering them direct exposure to the complexities of federal appellate practice.”
The session’s docket includes cases from Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado, with arguments beginning at 9 a.m. A full list of cases scheduled for the session is available on the court’s public calendar.
The event reflects Washburn Law’s ongoing commitment to fostering a deep understanding of the judicial process and enhancing students’ preparation for legal practice. Attendance is open to students, faculty and members of the public.
