Washburn University Explores the Age of AI with Guest Speaker Inara Scott

     Topeka, Kan. – Washburn University will host Senior Advisor for Strategy and Innovation for Oregon State University’s College of Business, Inara Scott Sept. 24 - 25. During her visit, Scott will meet with students, faculty, staff and administrators to discuss and explore her area of expertise, generative AI.

     While these events are not open to the public, the media is invited to reach out concerning attending to explore this important topic for their audience(s).

Scott will speak directly with students about ethical issues surrounding generative AI in their academic, professional and civic lives.

Keynote Address, Sept. 24

- 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

- Washburn Community is Invited

Scott will host a keynote, “Amplifying Humanity: Reclaiming Higher Education’s Purpose in the Age of AI.” This address will explore how AI is transforming education and work, as well as how Washburn can cultivate independent thinkers, resilient problem solvers and ethical leaders in an AI-driven world.

Faculty Breakfast Workshop, Sept. 25

- 8 -9:30 a.m.
- Washburn Room B, Memorial Union
- Faculty and staff are invited

Scott will lead a workshop on how to structure courses to preserve deep and critical thinking, while also examining how to question some foundational approaches to teaching and learning (maybe even Bloom's taxonomy!).

About Inara Scott

Scott leads strategic planning and high-impact innovation initiatives, including AI integration. Her primary teaching and research areas include sustainable business, business law and environmental law and regulation. She is internationally known for her work on generative AI and higher education and has been featured in outlets including NPR and Inside Higher Ed. She holds a J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School and A.B. from Duke University.
