Washburn names new leader for strategic enrollment management

Topeka, Kan. – Washburn University President JuliAnn Mazachek announced today that Dr. Stephen Terry has been named vice president for strategic enrollment management. Terry, who currently serves as associate vice president for university analytics and institutional research at the University of Central Missouri, will assume the role Nov. 3.

Terry will lead all enrollment efforts with a strong commitment to Washburn’s student-centered vision. He will oversee admissions and recruiting, financial aid, scholarships and the registrar’s office. Selected through an extensive national search through Anthem Executive, Terry joins Washburn to build on its momentum following three consecutive years of enrollment growth.

“Dr. Terry brings an intense passion for higher education and a strong belief in the power of education to change lives and transform communities,” Mazachek said. “With more than two decades of leadership experience, he will guide the development of a strategic enrollment plan that embraces innovative approaches to recruitment, marketing and student retention.”

At the University of Central Missouri, Terry has guided the development of predictive models, data systems and analytics tools that have strengthened retention and improved enrollment outcomes. Throughout his career, he has held various leadership roles in enrollment management, student success, military and veterans programs, operations, administration and compliance. In addition, he brings extensive experience in supporting institutional accreditation processes and long-range strategic planning.

"I look forward to working alongside our campus leaders, faculty, staff, community partners and most importantly, our students, to continue advancing Washburn’s mission and ensuring it remains the best learning experience and the top choice for students in Kansas and beyond,” said Terry. “This is a tremendous honor, and I am proud to be part of the Washburn community."

Terry earned a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree in higher education administration from Penn State and a Master of Business Administration from Park University. He also serves as a major in the Kansas Army National Guard, where he is branch chief for education services at Joint Force Headquarters in Kansas.
