Washburn University Music & Theatre Department to Present “Gloria”
Topeka, Kan. – The Washburn University Music & Theatre Department will present “Gloria” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27-28 and March 5-7 and at 2 p.m. March 8 in the Neese-Gray Theatre in the Garvey Fine Arts Center on the Washburn campus. A talkback with representatives from the Shawnee County Emergency Management Office and Washburn’s Social Work Department will follow the March 6 performance.
“Gloria,” written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, follows a group of young professionals working at a literary magazine in a busy office environment. When their lives change in an instant, they grapple with who will tell their story — and how — with surprises at every turn. The play contains adult subject matter, strong language, simulated violence and gun sound effects.
“This play deftly explores events that dominate headlines and shape how we perceive and receive information,” said Dr. Julie Noonan, director of theatre and associate professor of theatre, Washburn University. “We’re excited to stage this play by Jacobs-Jenkins and bring this conversation to the community.”
Guest director Jason R. Smith leads the production, with set design by Deb Bruner, lighting design by Wyatt Tripe, costume design by Knox McClendon and sound design by Noonan.
The cast includes Washburn students Gage Gooding, Katelyn Lang, Elijah L. Reed, Amber Schmidt and Grace Thacker, along with community member Ben Staton.
Tickets may be reserved at https://cur8.com/18042/project/135324 or at the Washburn Theatre Box Office before performances. Tickets are free for Washburn students, faculty and staff.
