Washburn University Music & Theatre Department Offers Free Musical Performances throughout March; The Public is Invited

Topeka, Kan. – The Washburn University Music & Theatre Department will host performances throughout March featuring Washburn music students and faculty. Most of these concerts are on the Washburn University campus, they are free and they are open to the public.

Kirsti Baker-Lampe Faculty Recital  
Date and Time: 3 p.m., Sunday, March 1
Location: Hurd Recital Hall

 

Dr. Kristi Baker-Lampe, adjunct instructor of applied piano, will perform “Music of the Americas.” Baker-Lampe will perform works by 19th- and 20th-century composers from the United States, Canada, Colombia and Argentina. 

Lyric Duo Concert
Date and Time: 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 3
Location: Hurd Recital Hall

 

Washburn University will host Lyric Duo—soprano Eva Peng and pianist Anthony Olson—for two concurrent masterclasses for the voice and piano studios at Washburn University for music major and minor students. The voice masterclass will be at 2:30 p.m. March 3 in Carole Chapel and the piano masterclass will be at the same time in White Concert Hall. Then, they will showcase an evening of French music titled “Songs of Love and of the Sea,” featuring Ernest Chausson’s masterwork “Poème de l’amour et de la mer, Op. 19,” as the centerpiece of the program.

 

Zsolt Eder Faculty Violin Recital
Date and Time: 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 5
Location: White Concert Hall

 

Washburn University faculty member and Topeka Symphony Concertmaster Zsolt Eder will perform a violin-piano recital with Cathy Altman. The program will feature a variety of short pieces by Bach, Goldmark, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Ravel, Granados, Rimsky-Korsakov and Sarasate.

 

Washburn University String Orchestra Concert
Date and Time: 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 6
Location: White Concert Hall

 

Dr. Raffaele Cipriano, director of Washburn University orchestras, will lead the Washburn orchestras in a public performance. Students will demonstrate what they have been learning during the 2025/2026 academic year.

 

Washburn University Choral Concert
Date and Time: 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 10
Location: Grace Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Ave.

 

Washburn University vocal students will utilize the building acoustics of Grace Cathedral for a spring concert.

 

Washburn University Jazz Ensemble Concert
Date and Time: 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 12
Location: Hurd Recital Hall

 

Enjoy a variety of jazz standards at the spring Jazz Ensemble Concert.

 

Percussion Festival
Date and Time: Begins at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 26
Location: White Concert Hall

 

Washburn University Percussion Festival featuring Marco Schrippa.

 

Lucy Tan Faculty Piano Recital
Date and Time: 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 27
Location: Hurd Recital Hall

 

Dr. Lucy Tan, director of keyboard studies and lecturer of applied piano, will perform a solo piano recital featuring works by Beethoven, Chen Yi, Tan Dun and Chopin.
