Washburn Summer Keyboard Academy offers two free concerts

     Topeka, Kan. — Washburn Summer Keyboard Academy students and faculty invite the public to attend two free concerts featuring mostly classical music July 27 and July 31 in Hurd Recital Hall on the Washburn University campus.

     At 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, Washburn faculty members Dr. Lucy Tan, director of keyboard studies, lecturer of applied piano and director of the Washburn Summer Keyboard Academy, and Dr. Kristi Baker-Lampe, adjunct instructor of applied piano, will perform, along with guest artist Dr. Kari Johnson Barroso. These accomplished artists have taught and performed across the country and around the world, including Asia and Europe. The concert will last approximately 45 to 60 minutes with no intermission.

     “We’re excited to welcome the Topeka community and visitors from across the region to campus for these two special concerts,” Tan said. “Whether you’re a longtime classical music fan or simply curious about keyboard music, we hope you’ll join us. These concerts are a wonderful opportunity to enjoy live music, support talented young musicians and experience the energy and artistry that make the academy such a special week.”

     Students participating in this year’s Washburn Summer Keyboard Academy will showcase their talents for family, friends and the public at 2 p.m. Friday, July 31. The concert will last approximately 45 to 60 minutes with no intermission. A reception will follow the concert in the lobby of Hurd Recital Hall.

     The Washburn Summer Keyboard Academy is a weeklong summer camp for aspiring pianists and organists ages 12 to 18. Students receive intensive instruction in keyboard performance from Washburn University faculty and guest artists. The camp includes daily lessons, keyboard workshops, recreational activities, music history and literature classes, performance classes and designated practice time and concludes with the student concert.
