Washburn to Host Hispanic Heritage Celebration Sept. 17

Topeka, Kan. – Washburn University will host the annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration Sept. 17. All Washburn students, faculty and staff are invited to attend to enjoy the richness of Hispanic culture with an authentic meal, entertainment and a keynote address from Carmen Romero-Nichols, the Director of Operations for ECI Services and the owner of the La Creperie Co., crepes & waffles food truck. This event is sponsored by Washburn student organization Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO), the Washburn University Office of Student Involvement & Development and Washburn University Student Life. The public is also invited to attend (there is no fee).

What: Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Banquet

When: 6 – 9 p.m., Sept. 17

Where: Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center, on the Washburn University campus

Details: The public is invited to join the Washburn community; they need to register by Monday, Sept. 14, by emailing Angela Valdivia at valdivia@washburn.edu to reserve a spot and a meal.

“This banquet is about taking time to learn and celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic Americans,” said Dr. Kim Chestnut, vice president for student life, Washburn University. “And, recognizing that Washburn has a great population of Hispanic American students, faculty and staff who contribute so much to our university every day.

“We know this extends to our Topeka community, and we would love to have local partners join us Sept. 17 to help observe Hispanic Heritage Month.”
