Washburn Symphony Orchestra Presents First Concert of the Season

     Topeka, Kan. — The Washburn University Symphony Orchestra opens its season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in White Concert Hall, on the Washburn University campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

     “This will be an evening of wit, warmth and youthful energy,” said Dr. Raffaele Cipriano, director of orchestras and assistant professor, Washburn University music & theatre department.

      The program begins with music from the opening of Donizetti's “L'elisir d'amore,” one of the most beloved comedies in all of opera, featuring tenor Ryan Metcalf of the Washburn Opera Studio as the lovestruck Nemorino. The concert concludes with Beethoven's “Symphony No. 2 in D major,” written as the composer faced one of the darkest moments of his life yet bursting with humor, drive and optimism.

     “Together, these works launch the season with exactly the spirit Washburn University Symphony Orchestra brings to every performance - joy, momentum and music made to be shared,” said Cipriano.
