Washburn University named the best value in Kansas

Topeka, Kan. – Washburn University is the best value of any college in the state of Kansas, according to Niche. Niche’s “2027 Best Colleges in America” rankings evaluated more than 4,000 colleges and universities in the United States, looking at academics, value, student life, career preparation, etc. Washburn’s focus on academic excellence, student success and low student debt stood out amongst peer institutions.

Niche looks at statistics such as average loan amount, alumni earnings and student surveys regarding value to determine best value grades and rankings.

“This Best Colleges recognition goes to show what we already know – our highly talented faculty and staff consistently go above and beyond for our students. They provide not only academic excellence but also genuine care for their success,” said Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek, president, Washburn University. “This helps develop students who achieve goals while here and as alumni in their chosen career fields.”

Also reflected in this evaluation is Washburn’s commitment to keeping student debt low. Washburn students graduate with low amounts of debt when compared to other universities in the state and throughout the Midwest. Mazachek credits institutional initiatives for making a difference.

“Our Shawnee County Thrives Scholarship, which is awarded to graduates of Shawnee County high schools, demonstrates our commitment to keeping our homegrown talent at home,” said Mazachek. “Washburn’s Shawnee County Promise and Northeast Kansas Advantage Scholarships take our commitment a step further, ensuring cost is not a barrier to anyone wanting to earn a college degree. We are inspired every day by the impact of these initiatives – hearing stories of the impossible becoming possible and changing the trajectory of students and their futures.”

Washburn was founded on the principle of a quality education for all, a foundation that the university continues to build on strategically today for every generation of Ichabods to come.

“Students are continuing to choose an education that is personal, affordable and filled with opportunity, and we remain focused on creating pathways that help every student achieve their goals,” said Mazachek.
