Media Advisory: Washburn University Hosts Annual Veteran’s Day Commemoration Monday, Nov. 11

Topeka, Kan.: Washburn University will host their 32nd annual Veteran’s Day ceremony Monday, Nov. 11. This year there will be a special focus on celebrating the Native American contribution to the Armed Services. This event is free and is open to the public.

When: Monday, Nov. 11 beginning at 11:45 a.m.

Where: Beginning at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial on the Washburn University campus

Program Details:                                        

Seating: Highland Park High School Air Force JROTC

11:45 a.m.: Cleansing and Blessing of Memorial Site - Standing Bear Intertribal Brotherhood

12:00 p.m.: Formal Ceremony at Vietnam Memorial

- Greeting/Invocation: Phillip Witzke, Student Veteran Emcee and Chaplain

- Tolling of the Bell and Moment of Silence 

- Welcome and Introduction: Dr. Jerry Farley, WU President          

- Wreaths in Recognition: Washburn Rural High School Air Force JROTC

- Veterans Honor Song: Standing Bear Intertribal Brotherhood

- Memorial Balloon Release for Agent Orange Victims: Jeanne Kessler

- Posting of Colors: Topeka West High School Army JROTC

- National Anthem: Standing Bear Intertribal Brotherhood
